Monterosa Zurich became carbon neutral in 2008

Monterosa furthers its commitment to environment and sustainability in India

Zurich, 30 March 2009

Monterosa Group, the independent financial service provider to global players active in India and Asian markets, announced today that it had achieved carbon neutral for its all business operations in Zurich for the year of 2008 by financially supporting a wind farm project in India.

The project, a boundled wind farm project in Maharashtra State in India, is being verified as a Gold Standard voluntary emission reduction (VER) project. The project activity consists of the installation of wind turbines with 1.25 MW capacity each, amounting to a total of 10 MW generation capacity on two different sites in Dhule district in Maharashtra. The employed technology is still comparatively new and long-term financial viability remains crucial for the realization of the project. Additional investment from Monterosa helped ensure the project’s implementation. The positive effects of the present project activity stretch far beyond the supply of clean energy to the local grid: Situated in the rural area, it promotes rural electrification, thereby contributing towards a sustainable development of economic activities. In addition, promoting energy generation from renewable sources, as for example wind, is one of the explicit national goals of India’s sustainable development plans, aiming at the alleviation of chronic electricity shortfalls of the country. Monterosa’s investment to the project was made through the First Climate (Germany) GmbH, a world leading carbon project developer and service provider.

"Monterosa is proud to become one of the first carbon neutral financial advisors active in India ," said Alastair Guggenbühl-Even, CEO & Chairman of Monterosa Group. "India offers great investment opportunities. Monterosa has always been convinced of the potential of this vibrant, dynamic and knowledge intensive country. By becoming a carbon neutral organisation active in India, we not only contribute directly to the sustainable development of India, but we also set an example for other international companies doing business with India." In 2008, Monterosa established a subsidiary company in Zurich, BTS Energy Advisors AG to address the requirements of its clients for carbon trading and advisory services.
